Is this the official website of the Gornergrat railway?
No. This is an independent traveller's journal. We are not affiliated with the Gornergrat Bahn or any railway company.
Do you sell tickets?
No. We sell nothing and never process payments. Always book through official channels.
When is the best time to visit?
Clear mornings in autumn and winter; summer afternoons can cloud over. That has been our pattern, not a guarantee. The peak does what it wants.
How long does the trip take?
About 35 minutes up; plan half a day with time at the top. Rushing the terrace is how you remember the queue and forget the view.
Is it cold at the summit?
Yes — even in summer, bring a warm layer; it's 3,089 metres. Wind is the part the forecast forgets to mention.
Can children do the trip?
Absolutely, the ride itself is the adventure for them. The carriage is the point as much as the panorama. Pack a layer for small shoulders too.
Do I need to book in advance?
In high season, yes — seats sell out on clear days. In quieter weeks we have sometimes gone without. Watch the sky, then decide.
